What to Expect: The Custom Artwork Process with Ronnita Whipple

Commissioning a custom piece should feel exciting, not confusing. Whether you’re imagining a portrait, a large-scale statement piece, or something made just for one wall in your home, here is exactly how the process works from first conversation to final delivery.

1. Consultation

We’ll have a 30 minute phone call to discuss what you want in the artwork. This is where I learn about your vision: the subject, the feeling you want it to have, the colors, the size, and where it will live.

2. Proposal

I’ll send you a detailed plan with the cost and timeline. You’ll know exactly what you’re getting and when, before any work begins.

3. Creating

Once you agree, I’ll start making your artwork. This is where your vision becomes real.

4. Feedback

I’ll show you progress and you can tell me what you like or want to change. You’re part of the process, so the finished piece reflects you.

5. Final Approval

When it’s done, I’ll show you the final artwork for your approval.

6. Completion

After you’re happy, you pay the remaining balance and I deliver the artwork to you.

About the gown

The gown I’m wearing in this photo is one of my wearable art pieces. I handmade it and hand-painted it, with the black bodice fading through soft gray into white. It’s available for purchase on my website.

How to prepare for your consultation

  • Gather inspiration: photos, colors, or images that capture the feeling you want.
  • Measure your space: know the wall size and where the piece will hang. My size guides can help you choose.
  • Think about the mood: calm, bold, romantic, joyful. How you want to feel when you see it matters.

Custom art is personal. It should feel like it was designed specifically for you, because it was.
